Another Urinary Tract Infection?
Urinary Tract Infections fall into these three categories:
Urethritis
Cystitis
Pyelonephritis
Urethritis
Gonorrhea or clamydia - possibly with syphilis - sexually transmitted diseases caused by bacteria, causing a burning sensation during urination, and an urge to urinate more frequently. The urethra may be swollen and painful. Also there can be a thick white, yellow, or bloody discharge from the vagina or penis. Other symptoms can include nausea, chills, fever, vomiting, and pain during intercourse. Even though these bacteria are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics, because of the risks of secondary infections and risks to others in the community, you should see a doctor now.
That is not to say that I cannot recommend alternative medicines from my store which can boost the immune system. These include Zinc, Multivitamins, Vitamin C, and Garlic. Acidophilus will replenish intestinal flora after antibiotics. Arginine is truly the most amazing immune system booster, but makes herpes worse (while you have symptoms).
Cystitis and Pyelonephritis
Cystitis is usually caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli which are important in the digestive tract. The symptoms are frequent and painful urination. When the bacteria enter the urinary tract they start destroying the lining, and you cannot just leave the condition untreated. Probably the worst outcome is that the infection travels to the kidney resulting in pyelonephritis, which can damage the kidney.
If you have cystitis then I will recommend cranberry and goldenseal root. The cranberry is highly regarded by the mainstream medical establishment, as it has been proven to prevent the bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract. So much so that some mob have isolated the key ingredient and are in the process of patenting it. The other product I recommend should not be taken indefinately, but has antibacterial properties (the goldenseal root). These two alone can reverse your problem in most cases. Your other alternative is to go to a doctor who will prescribe antibiotics. In the case of a chronic or recurring problem the antibiotics will work against you in the long run as they lose their effectiveness. Most likely the doctor will also recommend the cranberry anyway.
Whatever you decide you should really take the cranberry, and continue taking it for a couple of months. This is because the urinary tract has been damaged (eaten away) by the bacteria. It can be damaged so badly that you get blood in your urine from the exposed capillaries. Until this has healed a reinfection is likely. The cranberry prevents the bacteria from attaching there. Unfortunately some people often suffer from this disease - some even chronically or perpetually. They will find that taking cranberry for the rest of their lives affords ongoing protection.
Women are much more prone to this disease than men, and I am told that urinating each time after sexual intercourse can drastically reduce outbreaks of this disease. It can also help to urinate when you need to, and not hold it in. It is also unwise to douche. Studies suggest that this increases the risk of all infections. Also women who wear tight jeans are at greater risk.
Now this may come as a surprise to you, but I thoroughly believe that cystitis is more a symptom of a body imbalance than the cause of your problem.
How is your self discipline? This is what you should be taking. Eight glasses of water a day. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Some yoghurt or cheese; this and berries has been scientifically proven to help. Eliminate white bread - perhaps all bread, starchy foods (hint: I lived off fish and salad for a whole year). Avoid eating too much fried food, sweets and carbonated beverages. Too hard? Look more than half the population dies of circulation related diseases. The outcome for lack of personal discipline is inevitable....Hellooo - this is science.
You might wish to consider other ways in which your life is out of balance. Do you get pampered? Are you getting that therapeutic massage? By all means get a health practitioner with understanding to give you a general checkup. Elimination of toxins would be beneficial. This could involve eating prunes and figs for a while with just fluids to encourage bowl movements, and perhaps occasionally an enema.
Acupuncture has been proven to be effective against cystitis. An alternative to my recommended treatment is to buy uva ursi. If you do though, you will need to alkalinize your urine by taking two teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda daily. That tastes awful, but you know what? A quite unpleasant taste for two minutes a day is in fact a very low price to pay when weighed against the discomfort you are feeling. I always think like this, as many excellent supplements have a bad taste. Remember this. If you actually think about it rationally, the bitter medicine is always the only sane choice when faced with health problems.
Vitamin c also assists in the treatment of cystitis.
