Description DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is produced by the adrenal gland and it is found naturally in the body. DHEA is an important base from which other key metabolites are derived. Amounts of DHEA decrease as we grow older. This NATROL product contains the highest quality DHEA available in a supplement form.
The Inside Scoop Secretion of DHEA from the adrenal cortex is very high in a fetus, drops sharply after birth to very low levels in childhood, rises again before puberty and reaches peak levels in young adulthood. During adulthood, it has been conclusively shown that DHEA and DHEAS levels in both sexes decrease at a relatively constant rate of 2% per year. Hence, at age 80, levels are only about 20% of those at age 25.
